Aggresive Mosquitoes and Rain

Mosquitoes and Rain and Timing and… mosquito repellent.
People, including myself, forget from season to season that October is often one of the worst months for mosquitoes in North Texas! I think most of us think the cooler temperatures will bring the populations down. In other parts of the country the month may change but the results are the same. Toward the end of the season mosquitoes tend to get more aggressive.

Now, add in an almost perfect climate like we have done lately. We have had intermittent rains just about perfectly timed for mosquito breeding. Now, there are more places to breed, even in our own yards! Just when enough days go by for the adults to arise from the waters another batch of rain comes in for more breeding!

It doesn’t matter what you use or how toxic, spraying something on your yard this time of year will only work if it doesn’t get washed away by rain. If you are combining it with misting, then you will probably double up if you want results.

This has been one of the most perfect environments for mosquitoes I have seen in the last ten years. I don’t care who you use of what they use, timing, common sense and patience are very important if you want to protect your family from mosquitoes.

I got into this business in 2002 because I hated spraying mosquito repellent on my skin. Unfortunately, that is the best solution until we get a good long break from the rain. My experience tells me that mosquitoes sense the breeding season is coming to an end. So, that aggressive behavior, combined with a larger population may call for looking for progress and not perfection. It will be wise to keep a bottle of mosquito repellent handy just in case.

Remember, spray it on and leave it, don’t rub it in for the best effects. Enjoy the fall!
