Female mosquitoes do all the biting. They have what is called a proboscis with two serrated "knives" on each side that allow the mosquito to access your blood through your skin. Your blood is what allows the female to lay viable eggs. Depending on the species, mosquitoes will lay 100 to 250 eggs, which means the females are determined, and their population is ever-expanding.

Mosquito Steve products affect multiple receptors on the mosquito antennae. Traditional products rely on olfactory senses alone, which is why they are not as effective. Our products keep the mosquitoes from building resistance. This is why we layer our essential oils so that as one essential oil stops working another one takes its place. When the landing spaces and hiding places are treated, it is so irritating to mosquitos that they flee.

GOLD STANDARD TESTING

We have thoroughly tested our products using human landing rate counts. The National Institute of Health calls human landing rate counts the GOLD STANDARD of testing. Unfortunately, most products rely on lab testing because of the dangers of human testing. But laboratory mosquitoes are not the same as those raised outdoors where each generation of mosquitoes is more advanced than the last. Mosquitoes are subject to the elements of the outdoors, including pesticides, where they adapt to survive.

We hired three entomologists to validate our field trials in the last 15 years. They claimed we had “discovered the Holy Grail” since we created an EPA Exempt product that really works.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How long do I have to wait after a yard spray before my kids and dogs can play in the grass?

Letting the area dry for 10 minutes or so is advised for efficacy but kids and pets can be outdoors on sprayed areas immediately following treatment.

Do your products kill fish or beneficial insects?

Unless you spray a beneficial insect directly in close range, it is unlikely they will be hurt. We have tested our products with honeybees! We don’t spray the hives themselves, but we treat all around with zero affect to the hive.

We often wonder why anyone would use products with the labels you find on the harsh chemicals. Most of them are clear that they kill fish and aquatic life. Yet, day after day lakes, rivers, creeks and ponds are sprayed with products toxic to the fish. Mosquito Steve products are exempt because they do no harm to fish.

The distributor we buy our chemicals from says natural products don’t work. These chemical companies are experts so why aren’t they selling your products?

Some day they will be selling our products. Sadly, most of them have never tried Mosquito Steve. In fact, most of them have never even tried their own products. If they would do field trials using human landing rate counts they would find that their products don’t stack up well against Mosquito Steve. Don’t rely on laboratory testing because those mosquitoes are not the same as the ones in the wild.

Will your products work in open fields, around creeks and in wooded areas?

Yes! Our Yard Sprays work far superior to chemicals in the same areas!

Your products are a premium because of their essential oils. How can I justify spending more money to treat our community?

We love this question. How effective are your treatments now? Most of the time, the results are not as expected. Even during the Zika breakout in Florida a few years back, Tom Frieden, the director of the CDC, admitted that “pesticides were not working as well as expected.”
Our products cost more to make but when we get into bulk totes and drums, we can be pretty competitive. Plus, you will have a much happier community. How much is that worth?

I have read about some home remedies and various Internet and TikTok products, do these really work?

I have tested many of the home remedies and internet hoaxes. Dryer sheets had no effect what so ever. We proved this on live TV (Good Morning Texas thank you Page McCoy Smith!) We have field tested bracelets, lemon dish soap, traps and none of them seem to make much difference. The devices you clip on your belt seemed to work well if you stay absolutely still for at least 5 minutes for it to activate. It says that on the directions. It is always a good idea to read the directions and warnings on chemical labels!

I have some traps that seem to be working well. Why is your product better?

All traps will work to some degree. Whether they will be enough is the question. In most cases, they harm beneficial insects or simply attract everything but female mosquitoes. Most traps have holes in the top. Mosquitoes rarely crawl much less crawl through tiny holes so you will miss a large part of the population.

More likely, the reason why your trap is performing well is due to the cyclical nature and weather patterns. For instance, we have had odd patterns in North Texas the last two years. Mosquito season was short but in the Spring and Fall the mosquito populations became large and aggressive. From what we can tell, traps worked great when the populations were small but not when became larger.
